HOW TO CREATE A USABLE INTERFACE FOR JUST $10

Are you a bad artist? Do you have trouble making the stick figure look right when you play hangman with your kids? Are you the person in your shop stuck with creating the interfaces for your programs? If you answered YES to any of these questions then this workshop is for you. In this day long workshop students will learn how to quickly, easilly, and affordably (for just $10!) build a usable, interesting and repurpasable interface using Adobe Photoshop.

In the morning session we will:

  • Discuss what makes an interface usable
  • Popular design ideas to avoid
  • How to reduce clutter
  • Methods of selecting colors, patterns, and pictures to improve visual appeal
  • How to find visual components for under $10
  • Methods for laying out screen components

The afternoon will be spent building your interface with Adobe Photoshop. We will cover:

  • How to create and manage documents
  • Working with layers
  • Adding visual effects to layers (drop, shadows, high lights, rolled edges, brushed metal and chrome effects, and others)
  • How to create button states (up, down, over, disabled)
  • How to export your interface as individual components

This is an entry-level class and is designed for the non-artist or someone very new to Adobe Photoshop. Students will be required to have a laptop or computer with working copies of Adobe Photoshop and ImageReady installed.
